Colin:

Hello Beaver Nation! This week’s Beaver Hangouts spotlight will recognize Colin Shearmire! Currently, he is a senior here at Oregon State University studying history and education with aspirations to become a teacher. Colin has been with the Beaver Hangouts program for over three years now.

His favorite question to be asked by his students is, “Are you enjoying your time in college?” Colin responded with “I have enjoyed my time at OSU a ton, I have met so many driven and caring people that I consider to be really good friends. I have also gotten involved in countless leadership activities and clubs that really helped me broaden my horizons.”

Keep up the great work Colin! Go Beavers.

Athena and Tegan:

We are over half-way through fall term Beaver Nation! For this week’s Beaver Hangouts spotlight, we are recognizing the coaching team of Athena and Tegan! They coach sessions together and work to emphasize that even though they are studying the same major, nobody has the same experiences in college.

Athena’s favorite reaction from students in her sessions is when she sees her students become excited and is able to joke around with them, whereas Tegan’s favorite reaction from a student is when she hears them talk about their passions like building robots.

Great to have you two with the program! Go Beavers.

Emi:

Welcome back Beaver Nation ! This week’s Beaver Hangouts spotlight will recognize Emi Anderson! Emi is a junior here at Oregon State University and is studying education and child development so she can teach elementary school after college.

Emi joined the program 3 years ago as a freshman because she wanted to gain teaching experience and has stayed with the program ever since! The advice she would give to those who want to join the program is “Do it! Not only do the coaches gain awesome teaching experience but they learn more about their university. I learned about scholarships, financial aid and other assistance programs with my students.”

Awesome work! Go Beavers.

Joe:

Hello Beaver Nation! This week’s Beaver Hangouts spotlight will recognize Joe Castellanos! Currently, Joe is a junior studying Geography at Oregon State University and has been with the Beaver Hangouts program for two terms now.

He decided to join Beaver Hangouts because a fellow coach told him that it was a fun and an easy way to have an impact on young students. His favorite lesson plan to teach is the “Preparing for High School” lesson because he likes teaching lessons that directly applies to his middle school students and will help them in the future. Joe enjoys answering any questions or concerns from his students because he likes providing them with some insight.

Thank you for being a great mentor! Go Beavers.

Rujul:

Welcome back Beaver Nation! With school back in session we will continue our weekly Beaver Hangouts Coach Spotlights! This week we will be recognizing Rujul Kumar! Rujul is a sophomore at OSU and is studying Biology with a Pre-Medicine option.

Rujul’s favorite experience working with Beaver Hangouts has been meeting his classes in person. Most of the interactions are over a video chatting platform, but when Rujul’s class took a tour of Oregon State’s campus, he had the opportunity to spend the day with them! It is a pleasure to work with Rujul and, as he always says… Cheers!
